Hydrolyse van cellulose

A one-pot esterification and hydrolysis of cellulose was carried out by mixing softwood dissolving pulp with molten oxalic acid dihydrate at 110 °C for 15 min, 30 min, 60 min, and 120 min, respectively, under constant mixing and reflux, to obtain cellulose oxalates (COX), denoted as COX15, COX30, COX60, COX120, respectively. Commercially available microcrystalline cellulose powder (Sigma-Aldrich) was used for the hydrolysis tests. The chemicals used include sulfuric acid (1/3 p/v, Panreac), oxalic acid (98%, Sigma-Aldrich), glucose (99%, Panreac) and cellobiose (99%, Panreac). All the chemicals were used without further purification.

This results in the crystalline structure of cellulose with straight, stable supramolecular fibers of great tensile strength and low accessibility.
